FireINSPIRE

What is FireINSPIRE?

We work alongside colleagues to promote gender equality across our organisation.

The group provides a forum for our employees to source, or provide, peer support, and share their experiences and ideas on how we can collectively enable improvements in the workplace, all underpinning successful delivery of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.

The group provides an opportunity to raise awareness of, or discuss highlighted issues, and instigate change within the organisation as well as ensuring we have an inclusive approach through our foundation of policy, procedure and organisational culture.

To date the network has hosted events to recognise and celebrate International Days for both Men and Women, has supported the development and promotion of regional and national campaigns to enable the best health and wellbeing support in the workplace and generally aspires to work alongside our colleagues in creating a better place to work, where we all are passionate about embedding gender equality.

The network has worked alongside colleagues to address a range of issues including fitness, personal development, sanitary provision on the fireground, workwear and more recently published guidance on the menopause to not only support our female colleagues through this period of change in their life, but also provide well informed advice for managers and male colleagues to enable us all to provide the right support to our peers, friends and family members.

Each year the INSPIRE network look to support Cancer Research with members taking part in Race for Life and will continue to engage with charities and local forums to further promote health awareness and gender equality.

HIWFRS Service Values underpin all aspects of the network including how we engage, collaborate, inform and share; with consideration of the UK Fire Core Code of Ethics and our Service Priorities to evidence out alignment to the Cultural National Fire Standard at all times.”

How are 3SFire supporting FireINSPIRE?

3SFire provided funding to FireINSPIRE to fund self-defence classes for women. We were able to help provide 3 new classes in 2023.

These classes are not about fighting, but about making risk assessments and giving us the space and opportunity to escape a potentially dangerous situation. The classes are facilitated by SM Jason Boh who is highly skilled in Martial Arts and has vast experience in delivering women’s self-defence.

International Women’s Day

“International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.”
