HIWFRS Cadets

What are the Fire Cadets?

The Fire Cadets are a national programme for 13 to 17 year olds essential life skills, work, social and wellbeing skills.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service Fire Cadets programme provides fun and challenging opportunities for young people. Fire Cadet leaders work with their Cadets to improve team working, communication skills, leadership, health and fitness. They work in and around their local communities supporting social projects and volunteering. They meet for two hours, one evening per week at a local fire station, during school term time.

“Fire Cadets provides fun and challenging inclusive opportunities for young people to reach their full potential contributing to safer, stronger and healthier communities.”

How are we supporting the them?

Over the last 2 years 3SFire CIC have been able to support the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Cadets.

We have been able to provide the Fire Cadets with funding to support the new Fire Cadet unit launched by the Lord-Lieutenant where 3SFire Community Interest Company donated training ladders, uniforms, helmets and epaulette sliders. 3SFire have also been able to support the volunteers with funding for Neurodiverse training specialising in ADHD and autism. This is really valuable to assist the cadets with their training.

“The provision of ladders for Fire Cadets has been invaluable.  Learning to climb a Firefighting Cadets ladder helps our young people grow in confidence.  It teaches them they can overcome their fears and achieve something they did not they could.  They then take this experience with them into life and the next time they don’t think they can do something and are scared, they remember climbing that ladder and feel confident to try something else that’s new.”

“My favourite moment was climbing the ladder for the first time.  Everyone was so supportive and helped me so much.”

“We are so grateful for the support of 3SFire who provided funding for the purchase of uniforms for the Fire Cadet Instructor Volunteers.  Being able to provide the volunteers with uniform creates a unified image for the team, promoting team spirit and a sense of belonging to the Service.  The volunteers take such pride in wearing the uniform when they are volunteering and it instils a sense of responsibility and professionalism.”
